Coincidence?

Does anyone else ever notice how whenever something happens in your life, there always seems to be an abundance of songs that correlate? This ALWAYS happens to me. Maybe it is because we all tend to listen to music that matches our moods, or maybe it is because we are more prone to read into things when we are thinking about it? I don't know, but it's really interesting if you think about it. Even if they aren't even new songs. It's like my itunes and I have some sort of emotional connection... it just knows. I can be certain that anytime I turn on the shuffle there is going to be something that talks about whatever it is that I am going through at the time. It's like, "Hey I know you're feeling really down in the dumps write now, so here is some wrist slitting music to really set the mood for your present state of mind." I'm not talking about one line of the song either. It's like every single lyric seems like it was written about MY own experience and how I feel about the whole situation. Anyways just an interesting thought...

In other news, it snowed about 12 inches last night. Most of the schools in Manhattan are closed. All the public schools (for the first time in 5 years) FIT, The New School, Fordham.... NYU??? NO SIREE!! I still held out hope that my individual professors would cancel class since I had until 4:30 before I even needed to leave for my first class of the day, but yet again no such luck! So I put on my trusty moon boots and braved the storm. Let me tell you. NOT PRETTY... All I want to do is go back to my apartment and get in my bed. The snow is so much nicer when you watch it from the window. Sure does make a girl long for the days in Georgia, when school would get cancelled "because it was too cold for the children waiting at the bus stop," or even the always enjoyable "we need to conserve gas from the school buses..." ahhh yes, you've gotta love the south!

Also, I have a fun story from the weekend to share...
Saturday night I had to babysit but then I decided that I wanted to go out afterwards. My friend Lindsey, who I met while interning at Oscar de la Renta, was throwing her roommate a party at a bar downtown. I wasn't sure how many people there I was going to know so I wrangled LoLA and Erica to come with. While getting ready, we reminisced about old times from freshman year, when we had a much more defined group of friends. We had so many good times last year, we would all go out until like 3 or 4 in the morning every weekend, but now in our "old age" we sometimes don't even make it out. So we decided to pull a Freshman year night "sophomore style." We head out down to the corner of university and 14th st. to try and find a cab (not an easy feat!) So we're standing there and two guys approach me to ask for directions to Kiss and Fly (a club) They don't speak english. I try y best to motion to where they need to go and then realize that they speak french! Hoooray! I chance to put my skills to the test. After successfully giving them directions, in true freshman year spirit, Laura shouts, "bring them with us!" so I proceed to invite them to come along with us to the party. What's more spontaneous than picking up two random foreigners who speak ZERO english!? The night was so fun, I translated the whole time because LoLA and Erica don't speak french and the guys literally could understand about three words of english. Hilarity ensues...
And again in true freshman year spirit the night had to end with food; although, we replaced stealing pizza from Amore's with a trip to Coffee Shop (very sophomore year/grown up of us!)
In the mean time, I now have two french friends for when I go to Paris in the fall, who have promised to take me out and introduce me to their friends.  Also, one is a pastry maker... YUMMM

Fashion Week 2009

So this past week was fashion week and I have many fun events to share...
First off, on Saturday (V-day... the dreaded!!) I went to the James Coviello fashion show in the village. It was in a townhouse where they had converted two rooms into a place to display their fall collection. Very cool.
Then Sunday was the DVF (where I intern) after party at tenjune, which the other interns and I were lucky enough to get to go to. This was so fabulous and the girls from "The City" were there-- of course had to take pictures with them....

The next day I had to be at the office at 7:30, but not before trying to piece together 25 copies of Women's Wear Daily. (No easy feat, as most news stands only get about 5 copies) So yea, at the office there was a ton of stuff going on that I was excited to be a part of but it was super tiring!

Wednesday, I had to work all day and then at the end of the day, we went to the tents to help set up for the American Express VIP fashion show. We got to work backstage and then go out and watch the show as well.  The week was absolutely crazy, and I am so glad that I am finally getting a chance to rest! But well worth it... Another photo for your enjoyment....

Speed Dating

(Flash back two Saturdays ago)
The lovely LoLA and I are baking cupcakes, as we like to do from time to time. While we wait for our cupcakes to cool so that we can frost them, we begin to discuss some ideas of potentially fun or interesting things to do. Somehow, the conversation lands on speed dating. Yes, speed dating. Seems like an interesting concept. You see it in movies every here and again. We decide to pursue the idea further. LoLA gets on the computer, to try to find a local speed dating event that we could attend. Bingo! we find one, and we're booked.

We decide no matter how this little adventure turns out it is bound to be fun. Imagine two different scenarios...
1) It's actually fun and we meet some cool guys
2) It's tons of lame people, which will provide us with hours of hilarity.
clearly... win win situation

(now flash forward to Sunday night)
We go speed dating. The event is held at a bar in Chinatown, that we have actually been to a couple times previously. We walk in and it seems ok. The people running the event give us a name badge and sheet that we are supposed to use to keep track of our dates. There is a place for the guys name, a place to say whether or not you want to see him again, and a space to make notes to help you remember. This event is supposed to consist of 30 or so "dates" so mind you, remembering everyone could be quite the feat. So we go and each get a drink from the bar (score, they didn't card!) and we take our seats at a large table. When the event starts, it's just like what you would imagine. The girls stay seated and the guys rotate around every 3 minute. (which is actually a perfect amount of time)

I would say that the overall adventure ranks somewhere between the two previously posted outcomes. There were some people who I would definitely see again (Chet and his friend Justin, the cute med students, are a decidedly perfect double date for LoLA and I) and then there are some who I would never see again (a sampling from my notes... "hasn't realized that he's gay yet," "guido," and "awkward Asian")

So then the fun stuff starts... you go home and log on to the website and you check off the names of people who you would be willing to go on a real date with. If they choose you, then you can see each other's email addresses. It's a match!!

I matched with three people and have received emails from two. stay tuned...

Waiting for the Bus

Last Wednesday morning started out the same as all Wednesday mornings. I woke up early, not particularly bright-eyed and bushy tailed because let's be honest I am not nor never have been a morning person. I got ready to go to my internship (at Diane Von Furstenberg) ate, dressed, blah blah blah.
So then I'm ready to go, head to the bus stop to wait for the bus. (as a side note, I have discovered the NYC bus system, which I am now a huge fan of as they usually drop me off much closer to my final destination than the subway) Anyways.... I am standing waiting for the bus and I feel a little plop on the collar of my coat. Of course, this startles me ad I start trying to figure out what happened. I think maybe snow fell off something (as it had snowed the day before) and I look up... Snow... HA! yea, right. I see a bird. Needless to say, the bird had pooped on the back of my coat. Now, anyone who knows me would know that this did not bode well. Immediately, I started running back to my place so that I could change my clothes and somehow still try to make it to work on time. Picture... Me, running full speed down a Manhattan side walk, Burberry moonboots clunking away (like I said, it had snowed), all the while trying to keep myself from heaving. It was not a pretty picture, to say the least!

By the time that I get back, replace my adorable work outfit with my go to "I have no clue what to wear and I'm late" sweater and jeans, and get back to the bus stop, I am a good fifteen minutes late. Instead of reverting to panic mode, I decide that having a bird shit on me before 9am constitutes complete crisis and my supervisors will definitely understand.

lesson learned: Be more strategic about where I stand. At ALL times.

My First Foray in the Blogging World

Hello hello!
So I thought I would start one of these and see where it leads me. Mostly I will just be sharing stories and random things that happen to me. Enjoy!
